Do I need a referral to be seen?
In most cases, no. Florida is a Direct Access state, meaning you can see a physical therapist without a physician referral for up to 30 days. Many patients improve within that timeframe. If treatment is needed beyond 30 days, we simply send your plan of care to your physician for a signature.
Some insurance plans may require a referral for coverage. Please check your specific plan to be sure.
For Wellness and Exercise Programming, a referral is never required.
Do you accept my insurance?
We are currently participating with TRICARE, which is wonderful news for many of our local military families.
We are also in the process of joining additional major insurance plans. Please check back for updates or give us a call for the most current information.
We also accept:
HSA and FSA cards
All major credit/debit cards
Some insurance plans allow you to submit for out-of-network reimbursement. If you need a superbill or documentation, just let Dr. Calhoun know—she will gladly prepare the required forms.

What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your first visit includes a detailed conversation about your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, and goals. This is followed by a thorough movement and strength assessment, pelvic floor evaluation if appropriate, and the start of a personalized treatment plan.
Expect lots of one-on-one attention, education, and time to ask questions.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable, flexible clothing that allows you to move easily. For pelvic floor visits, you are always covered appropriately, and your comfort is the top priority.
How long are appointments?
Plan for about 45–60 minutes for your first appointment so we have plenty of time to talk through your concerns and begin treatment. Follow-ups are a bit shorter, usually 30–45 minutes.
What types of treatment modalities are used in physical therapy, and how do they help?
Our physical therapy sessions use a variety of hands-on treatment modalities tailored to your needs. These may include dry needling to release muscle tension, cupping to improve circulation and reduce soreness, Kinesio taping (KT taping)for support and movement assistance, as well as soft tissue and joint mobilization techniques. Each modality is selected to reduce pain, improve mobility, and enhance your overall function.
Do you provide exercise programs or wellness sessions outside of rehab?
Yes! We offer maintenance programs, guided exercise sessions, return-to-lifting programs, and ongoing wellness care for anyone who wants expert support—even if you’re not currently injured.
Can physical therapy help during pregnancy?
Absolutely. Physical therapy can help manage back pain, hip pain, pelvic pressure, core weakness, and more during pregnancy. It also improves strength and mobility to support a smoother labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery.
How soon after giving birth can I start PT?
Many patients begin gentle pelvic floor and core therapy as early as 3–6 weeks postpartum, depending on their delivery and healing. You can also schedule a birth recovery check-in for guidance before starting formal sessions.
Do you offer internal pelvic floor exams?
Yes. Internal pelvic floor assessment is available when appropriate and always performed with your full consent. We will discuss the purpose, benefits, and options ahead of time so you feel completely informed and comfortable.
Do I have to do an internal exam?
No. Internal exams are optional. If you prefer not to have one, we can still provide effective assessment and treatment using external and functional testing.
